Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic has taken on the former Crystal Cruises yacht Crystal Esprit after the luxury line\u2019s parent company\u00a0filed be wound up.<\/p>\n
The 48-passenger vessel has been renamed as National Geographic Islander ll and makes its debut for its new owners in the Galapagos on August 18 for year-round expeditions in the islands.<\/p>\n
The ship, with 26 suites, is undergoing a \u201ctop to bottom\u201d refit before returning to service.<\/p>\n
National Geographic Islander II\u00a0will carry a fleet of kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, a custom-built glass bottom Zodiac and flotilla of versatile Mark V Zodiacs.<\/p>\n
The new Science Hub, with an interactive video display, lab benches and seating,\u00a0will highlight the company\u2019s efforts in supporting conservation and research.<\/p>\n
Two\u00a0cabins will be designated for Galapagos community members, local and international researchers, educators, storytellers and other experts.<\/p>\n
The revamp of the ship includes environmental and fuel-efficient upgrades like reduced outdoor lighting, special paint and recycled water from new air conditioning systems.<\/p>\n
