About Calvi Corsica, France
promontory at the western end of a half-moon-shaped bay is a spectacular sight. Below, a finely drawn strip of red-roofed houses and spidery palm trees delineate the Basse-Ville (lower city), with its yacht-crammed marina.
Perched above the marina is the Citadelle. The views are magnificent from its bastions. Below the Citadelle extEnd the elegant Quai Landry, lined with attractive restaurants and cafes.
Guests will be taken ashore via the ship's tenders. It's a short walk to the coach parking area. Haute-Ville (upper town) can be reached on foot via a few steps. Taxis are in limited supply; they need to be called to Corsican handicrafts and wines are popular items. Rue Clemenceau is crammed with souvenir shops. Many shops close between 12:30 p.m. and 3.
Fish restaurants in the marina area offer excellent seafood fresh from the bay. Less expensive eateries can be found in the upper town, specializing in Corsican cuisine.
Exploring the maze of narrow streets in the upper town is a must.
