We arrive in Kushiro on the east coast of Hokkaido, home to wetlands beloved by birds � including the red-crowned crane, a national symbol of longevity. Over in Hakodate, relax in steaming onsen; in Aomori, admire the apple and cherry orchards set against the Hakkoda Mountains; and in Sendai, discover the remains of a 17th-century castle.
