Since 1946 the whole island has been under statutory protection as an
ancient monument. Exploration of the island should include a trip FROM Skala
harbor to the island's tiny capital, Chora (also known as Patmos Town), a
visit to the Cave of St. John, and to the stunning fortress-monastery
located at the highest point at Chora.
The ship is scheduled to anchor off Skala harbor. Guests
will be taken ashore via the ship's tenders. The landing stage is
located in the center of Skala. The town of Chora is two miles FROM
Skala. Taxis may be available in limited supply.
Shops in the Skala area and in Chora offer souvenir items
and jewelry. Most shops stay open throughout the day when a cruise
